They told us at work that we had to work the Bank Holiday just gone and that they would give us a day extra on our annual entitlement- now it appears that they are trying to get out of giving us a day extra even though a Bank Holiday you are entitled to by Law.
Can they do this or are they breaking the law and what could i do if this is the case do you think?
Ben.

there is no law saying you are entitled to bank holidya off, its just expected.
you are entitled to at least 4 weeks (i think) holiday if you work up to and over 30 hour a week on average over the past 52 weeks up untill you wanted to take the holiday

all bank holidays are at works discretion.
annual leave is worked out at a minimum of 1 weeks paid leave for every 12 weeks worked. this means if you work 10hrs for 12 weeks you can have a week with 10hrs holiday paid. 40hrs for 12 weeks then 40 paid.
these can be paid at the end of any 12 week period and you can also take leave in advance but could end up paying it back if you leave.
bank holidays can be deducted from this time earned. you need to check your contract

bank holidays are not legal, they are given at companys discretion.
check your contract t should say in there.
if bank holidays were legal then nowhere would be allowed to be open
