right what i wanna do is this:

I want to make something to go from flat through 90 degress to up right!

I went into maplins today and the guy suggested a servo as is a very slow moving motor but the control box was like £80

So i need a 12v motor of some sort that moves very slowly through a minimum of 90 degrees and that can also go in reverse to put it back down!

Ive looked at actuators and motors on the net but its all abit confussing!

So i just wonderd if anyone knew of anything suitable

If you want it slow, use a worm gear.

Depending on the size of the thing you're moving, an old VCR will probably have right right parts in.

If its any bigger you may need to investigate pneumatics.

Thats how easy i thought it was gonna be!

But its finding a small enough motor that goes slow enough!

Its gonna be to move a 6.5 inch screen from flat to 90 degrees!

Ian thought of that but would need to be 12v!

Most of the internals of a VCR should be stepped down 12v stuff. You could even go to an old bus/coach firm to see if they have any old 12v tape players if thats not the case.

Or look at this webpage http://www.robotsystems.co.uk/Product/Plinmot.html and phone the guys on there for some advice!

I dont think you can find a motor that goes very slow.
You can find an ordinary motor and fit gears to it so that you decrease the rpm and increase its torque. That will be very difficult to achieve.
You can try shops with electronics, lots of motors and gears there

you got part number for the maplin servo mate?

tbh, it depends what servo you are looking at, as i im sure you could bodge something to control it for a LOT less than 80 quid

The servo is the ball race one on this page:

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?doy=31m1&source=15&criteria=servo

I was looking at the servo check thingy that controls it aswell and also the keypad controller, but dont know how the tings work!

They are alot cheaper on there aswell!

That says it does a slow sweep through 90 degrees? Can you not just wire that to a switch?

You wouldnt need a controller for that, its on board.

It would need a 4.8v supply though

That is the controller itself. You connect a servo to it. You would have to buy it then fool around with it i think
