Author Questions regarding the corsa b airbox.

Hi, got a 1.2 corsa with the standard airbox currently fitted, have a K&N 57i induction kit ready to fit on, however just curious what the two things in the photographs that I have circled are. It would seem when the induction kit is fitted the instructions does not say what to do with these two pieces that are going into the air box. This is the reason why I have not fitted the kit atm, as they can't be unimportant if they are going into the standard airbox, can anyone please explain what they are for and what I should do with them if I fit the induction kit?





I'm sorry about the quality of the images,
the first image is a little red cord at the side of the airbox and the bottom one is a black rubber corrigated tube coming from the bottom of the airbox.

hi dan,

first off, the pic at the top is showing the Vacuum pipe, which measures the pressure inside the airbox and adjusts the valve inside accordingly. It is also related to pic number 2, which is a hot air system pipe that runs off the top of the exhaust manifold.
If the ECU thinks the air is too cold for maximum efficiency/lowest emissions, it will open the valve inside the airbox and let hot air in, and mixes it with the cooler air entering from the inlet pipe. You dont need either really, and the hot air trunking from the manifold can be just removed, and the little red pipe can be pulled off, and wedge a screw down it and tuck it away near the bulkhead somewhere when you fit your induction kit.

saying that, to stop your induction kit from sucking in the hot air blowing from the manifold, try to blank it off by some means, or take the trunking pipe and point it away from that side of the engine.

When i replaced my air filter I think the red wire has something to with the amount of air passing into the air box.
If it is you wont need to worry about it.
BUT check with someone else first as im not totally sure.
The black tube is their to pass cool air over the exhaust manifold. You can bin this tube, it wont damage your engine to run without it.

Red wire will need blocking up, or it will send false signals to the ECU regarding air pressure, and it might screw up some sensors.
wrong way around corsaggh, tube to exhaust manifold supplies hot air to the airbox, why would you need to cool down the exhaust manifold?
