A SNAPPER took a remarkable photo — of a panther tucking into a bird.
The pic — hailed as PROOF big cats do live in Britain - was taken by Norman Evans in a remote part of Gwent, South Wales.
He sent it to the British Big Cat Society who confirmed the beast IS a panther.
Founder Danny Bamping said: “This is a really important photo.
“It proves there are big cats in the wild in Britain. This is a mature black panther.”
Builder Norman, 43, crept within 15 feet of the animal to take the snap on his digital camera before retreating.
He said: “The animal suddenly came into view about 15 feet away.
“I was so shocked I started shaking and twitching but took two photos before I decided to run for it.
“The panther was in a pile of bird feathers. I didn’t want to be its next meal.”
The big cat is thought to be one of a pair released into the wild by a scrapyard boss.
There have been several sightings of similar beasts in the area — and four years ago one attacked a boy of 11.
