i have my total vauxhal shoot on monday, and just trying to tidy everything up! got the engine looking good now. its just the gearbox looks dirty. shall i just give it a clean? if so what shall i use, or paint it, if so what paint do i need etc.

i thought about steam clean, but last time took AGES to start car back up, as water got into all the sensors etc.

parafin brush on hose off leave to dry then quickly brush on hammerite

i know, but for shows etc, it would look nice to be clean its probally me being fussy!

Get the car warm, cover the gearbox in engine degreaser (Gunk or similar) let it soak in for a while. Cover all your electrics up with bags then steam clean. Repeat until clean! You could try a small stiff brush to work the degreaser in further if you can get to it!

only way your get it clean is to take it out, degrease it and paint it

I would only give an F28 that sort of tratment. Painting an F20 is like wrapping a box of matches up with christmas wrapping paper.

well its an F16 for starters and seeing as it was going with this rebuild engine would be silly to put a dirty box with it


so worth a bit of smoothing and painting IMO
