Just checked my mum's corsa...P reg 1.2 8v and she has alot of "mayo" around the oil filler cap, I know this can be due to a knackered head gasket but she is loosing no water.

Another thing that i thought is that she only goes to work and back in it each day which is no more than a mile. Could it be condensation in the engine while its stood overnight and she isnt goin far enough to get the engine warm properly....or is it something else.

any help much appreciated. Cheers Matt.

only way to be sure is a pressure test.

i had a corsa gsi that did this. turned out to be condensation.

it runs spot on...would it be noticeable if there was a loss of compression?

i wouldnt worry about it to be honest, notorious for moisture build-up in the sump. just go and rag the arse off it for an hour up the m'way. Get rid of any moisture left in the sump. Is there any gunk on the dipstick? is the coolant looking ok?

if there was mayo on the dipstick, then it is probably just moisture. Get an oil change done, then tell your mum to take car for a good drive once a week

If it's used for lots of short trips then I'd expect some mayo, you'd know very quick if the h'g had failed, as you'll get oil in the water very fast as the pressure difference is great that way, water in the oil is less common on h/g failure.
Just wipe it down and keep an eye.

I bought a corsa with loads of mayo in filler cap, cleaned it off and it never happened again. Think it can happen if the car aint used much, ie short journeys all the time.
