not sure what it is now, but here's a quick run down:
-bogs down as you pull out of junctions, have to ride clutch a bit to pull away quickly, (reminds me of when my cambelt was slipping/tensioner was loose)
-when cruising along without much gas/rev's, car juddering back and forth, hesitates, feels like a cylinder isn't firing sometimes, then it will shoot off
how do i test sparks and ignition leads etc?
hope its not head gasket, can't see any leaks, not loosing water, no oil in the header tank

its not doing it all the time, is on and off at the mo, but i see it getting worse

No seriously it could be that, mine was doing the same and now its got a new ICV its fine

could be a number of things...
but i had a simular problem... the ICV fixed it.... go to a quite area and turn on the ignition with the bonnet open but dont start the car... see if you can here the icv strugling.... thats how i found mine was fubar...

i've had similar probs before, once was head gasket, 2nd was cambelt tensioner came loose, both times people said ICV on here 
what does a struggling ICV sound like?, it seems to idle alright

Mine was doing the same but asn't idling properly so it could be something else then if yours is idling ok.

its sounds er... broken mine was idling fine sometimes but sometimes it would sit at 2000rpm at traffic lights... making me look silly

its mainly when putting engine under a bit of strain, like pulling away or going up a hill at normal revs, not thrashing it etc
driving it hard makes it all alright

solved it, it was the HT leads, they must be fooked again

its back 
wasn't the leads
might be ICV
can hear a clicking/sparking noise coming from the box that HT leads come from, Distributor,
is that meant to click

is there a lead going to that box, like an HT lead, use to have 5 leads with carbs

nah yours should be distributorless... so only 4 leads 1 for each plug...

whats the box thing that the leads connect to called?
that makes a clicking noise on idle

the dis(distributorless ignition system) pack.... cant say i notice mine clicking.. but then again my engine makes so much noise out of every other part of it that you would hear it anyways

the garage think it sounds like Dis pack, they called it coil pack
going to check it later with them
are these things repairable? expensive?

well a coil pack for my saxo vtr when i had it was £99 from motor factors.but they slotted over the plugs.
i would imagine the part would be between £50-£100

get to a scrappy, some 1.2 and 1.4 8v have em too, you'll pay about 15-20 quid

i had a similar problem and it was the ht leads, if you have replaced them all, just check all connections if it comes back, spray a wee bit wd40 on the ends aswell. and if you want a dis module i have a spare for a 1.6 16v if you interested
