Yes, unfortunately, you will require approximately £8000.00 worth of VAS 5051B diagnostic machine (although a 5051 or 52 would do), and the training to use it.

If you want to code the key itself, you will also require a Full VQM registered dealership with a live phone link to VW in order to obtain the incrypted security information via the 5051 also.

If the cars a MK IV Golf, and you only need to match the remote for opening/locking sometimes you can get away with doing as follows...

One key in ignition (can't remember which - try it both ways round)

One in door.

Door open, but with lock mech in closed position (you can click it home with a pen or one of the keys)

Ignition on.

Turn key in door lock and hold it there.

Press and hold same button on both fobs for 3-5 seconds.

Now unlock door with key in lock and release mechanism with door handle.

Remove key from ignition and close door.

Try both fobs.

This technique only works sometimes, probably due to variations in software coding in security systems from car to car, and it doesn't always stay permanent. So, if successfull may still need to be repeated at a later date.

Sorry couldn't be more help.

Good luck

That's cool, that's what I referred to - a IV (or a 4 if you like)

Give it a try if it's just the remote fob, you need adapting.

Cheaper than your dealer (free actually) and only takes seconds and sometimes it lasts indefinitely.

Good luck, hope it sorts it.
