I know ill need the obvious- engine, gearbox, loom, ECU....
But what else will I need? The 1.2 is obviously an spi and the SRI is an mpi so will i need to change anything there??
If anyone has done this kind of conversion id really wanna hear from you, im seriously considering it but I wanna make sure i do it rite and have everything I need.
Do the clocks need to be changed? or is it ok with the standard 1.2 clocks?
Will i need to uprate my brakes or will the 1.2 brakes cope??
I know peeps will say "use the search feature" but i want to know specificly answering to my question and not have to piece together a few different answers.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

i have done this conversion and just sold mine as a matter of fact! you ideally could do with a sri fuel tank its easier that way!
the fuel lines just push and jubilee on to the fuel rail, get all the engine wiring loom for the engine management side and the ecu then unplug the ecu from the cars loom in the drivers footwell, the sri one plugs direct into this no problem at all, and the ecu fits in the gap sound as! then really all you need is some sri clocks because you need the correct vehicle speed sensor inside them (VSS - error will show on blink codes if not) finally remember the fuel supply goes onto the rail and the return goes onto the pressure regulator! i got this wrong!! lol. and you need an sri vacuum pipe for the servo unit too! i have missed so much i would reckon, but this is a rough outline! do-it, i loved my conversion when it finally got running sweet

good luck

as for brakes you will be doing some 'proper' speeds after the conversion! hit it with some uprated discs and pads and if you really wanna stop use some astra 16v front brakes like i used, standard discs and greenstuff pads work quite well on the astra set up too

cant see it being easyer to change a fuel tank than a fuel pump.....

true, though i came across many problems with the plastic surround on the fuel pump itself, not to mention the brown pants moments when i had the top out the tank getting high on vapours trying not to slip and blow me and the car up lol

Ok people, want some advice on the engine loom.
Im guessing its not just a plug and play job??
what has to be done to get the loom of the 1.4 SRI in the 1.2LS?

it is a plug and play job! honest! you just prize out the grommet through the bulkhead, unclip the ecu supply live wires from the car, unplug the ecu, withdraw the 1.2 setup and re fit the new SRI loom and ecu! simple, and the charging/cooling circuits are all the same and will fit straight on, much like the starter motor wiring! relax!

easier to change the fuel pump rather than the tank as you've go to remove the rear shock absorbers and take the exhaust off to get it off

Nope. The 1.2 8v tank has a feed, return and breather pipe so you can run it SPI or MPI.

so if i was to put the MPI pump in now wit my 1.2 engine still in it would run ok??
sounds like a stupid question but just wondered.
any one know any good websites that show an engine conversion. just wana check a few things.
i can clearly see the two front mounts but where else is the engine mounted??
finally, if i put the SRI engine, gearbox, ECU, loom and MPI fuel pump in it should run ok??
anyone suggest any thing else (besides brakes)??

You wont be able to use an MPI fuel pump with an SPI engine, nor vice versa.
Look at the top of this page, there is a topped thread which shows a 2.0 engine conversion, it's all the same thing really.
The engine is mounted on the drivers side at the front. This is retained as you are fitting a non PAS/air con/16v engine. The gear box is mounted on the other side and at the rear - these mounts are retained too.
If you fitted the SRi engine gearbox, ECU and loom & fuel pump the car would run fine.
Your 1.2 exhaust should mate up to the 1.4 manifold/downpipe.
Most of this is covered in the topped post though
Also, ever thought of just buying an SRi, will be cheaper to insure than a conversion and easier tosell.
