I was just at work 2day and my mate rekons he can get 40bhp from super chipping his car (mk4 ford fiesta 1.25 Ze-tec) i just started laighing at him and told him thats not possible but he wan't having any of it.
Just woundred if iam actually right here anybody help me out?
fogot to add its just a super chip not a uni-chip

exactly what i said to him but he rekons he has been told of somebody on a fiesta website that it is possible and he thinks he can get 150bhp from the chip, cams and zorts.
anybody know that spec of this car as i can't find it anywhere i know the 1.6 ze-tec S has around the same as a corsa GSI

there quite good little cars the 1.25, but theres no way it will run 140bhp, just cant see it
espically at claims off 40bhp from a non mapped plug in a play chip

yea mate exactly, he has a K&N on it and he thinks it make a load of difference.
yea Tim he must be on summat what ever it is a wouldn't mind some and it might make my car gain 50Bhp from a back box

More like 2 or probably even 0.
It would more than likely just make the car more driveable and use a bit more juice.
Changing or reprogramming the chip in an engine ECU is a prerequisite for using potential created by physically modifying or fitting superior engine components.
Just changing the chip without improving the hardware is virtually pointless other than to improve drivability in some cases by flowing more fuel through the injectors at low and closed throttle positions.
Fitting a lairy chip to an otherwise standard setup would be a bit like mating incredible springs to standard dampers, bushes and anti roll bars - pointless.
...or, shoving a big funnel in your mouth to get more air in your lungs - not a lot of good if you don't increase your lung capacity first.
Some manufacturers make outrageous power increase claims, and they are just that.
Someone needs to point these facts out to the gentleman in question.
BTW, when my car was a few months old, it went to BBR to have a 'superchip' fitted, and be set up.
The car was dyno tested a short while later and was making less power than a standard model.
A good example of a pointless exercise I think.
