 this is the wrong sort of valve compressor, you need one for a multi valve engine.

i'd leave the lifters in oil if i was you and did you number them so you know where they came from?
don't forget to number the valves too !!!!! also are you re-seating the valves ?

Its great fun putting the collets back in! lol I used thick grease to stick them in place and needle nose pliers.

No, but the valve compessor he needs is called a multi valve spring compressor. That sort is for an 8v style head not a 16v style head.

Thats the best way to do it  Still took me about 4 hours to do all 16

Yep Id go with the hammer to get the valves out you just need a good hit so that it compresses the spring a bit and releases the collets just keep your eye on them

the plastic tray has all the hydraulic lifters in it. I have them all lined up they way they came out. I have it all sitting like that so i can put it back together as it came apart. just as long as nobody moves anything

To re-seat the valve you get a grinding stick and some grinding paste.
You put some course paste onto the valve and then attatch the stick (it sticks on with a suction cup) then twist it about between your hands for a 5 seconds, you then wipe the course grinding paste off and do the same with some fine grinding paste...

yeah, re-seat the valves, might aswell seen as your stripping the head down. doesnt take to long just is boring as hell, so have some herb at hand to smoke i say

got a new valve spring compressor tonight. worked no problem on the 8 outer valves but had to put a socket over them for 8 inner ones 
like this
will have to cut it and weld a small extension in it.
Anyway got them all out and gave them a wee clean. have removed all the valve stem seals aswell.
Tommorrows plan is to try see guy about some powder coating 
get a valve seat grinder
and get a few nits at scrappyy, couple screws and a wire clip from a connector 
oh and a pic of how i have laid it all out on table so i no where it allgoes back
Have a slight worry about the valves will get pictures in a min.
So all in all it isnt going to bad. Have found a few problems which i am happy about as there is definetaly a good chance it should be running way better once put back together.
Not heard anything about my eecu that was sent away to get tested, will phone them tommorrow aswell

i reseat valves for abit longer than 5 seconds to be honest. Just get it so both surfaces are completely smooth.

the bashing them with a socket and hammer is a perfectly normal way to do it, ask any engin ebuilder how they do it. Much quicker, less hassle. Just do it on a thick bit of foam.

i am needing more details on how to grind the valve seats. I got a valve seat grinder today. it is 20mm.
This is what i think i do
Put some course paste on back of valve face, put in correct seating and rotate it backwards and forwards using grinder between palms of the hands.
The bit i am not sure about is where the paste goes?

sussed it out and have all the valve re seated
just looking at them you can see they are sitting far better than they were when i removed the head. really happy how things are going 
Going to get the compressor to blow out and clean the cylinder head before i refit the valves
Going to refit the 4 outer valves on each side then i am going to need to midify the valve spring remover to get the 8 centre ones refitted
