Corsa Broke down tonight. Was parked up. Went to pull away and the clutch didn't do anything. Could put the car into gear etc without grinding, but the car wouldn't move. Speedo is constantly showing 10mph. I put it in 4th when we were moving it for some reason and accelerated. Revs went to 4krpm and the speedo showed 50.

Worrying. What's wrong?

well if the speedo is showing a speed, this makes me think the gears in the box are actually turning, and the problem is between the diff and the wheel, could be the diff itself , inner cv or outer cv. Your car looks lowered from the pic which makes me think its one of the cv joints as this puts extra strain on them. get someone to sit in the car with their foot on the brake, put it in gear and lift off the clutch, while you look under the car, have a look to see if either driveshaft is turning.

Yeh it's lowered. I've been thinking about the Diff all day aswell. Bin at work all day so I didn't get the chance to look at it today!

What's the worst case scenario? New gearbox?

Would a stretched Clutch Cable cause this?

i have a 4 speed gear box
a 5 speed gear boc
and a f15 5 speed

Yea, could need a new gearbox, cheaper than a new diff. If you need one I have a 4 speed, if thats what your car uses.

It's a 5 Speeder. I'm not too bothered if the Box has Gone. Easy to get from the Scrappy etc.

Maybe I should Add... I can sit in it. With the engine on. No feet on any pedals and put it in gear.

Can take it out though can't you? I don't know. Never had one in pieces... Never mind.

No-one really has any idea . I'm just gonna take it all apart tomorrow. Don't have any idea where to start looking for something that's wrong tho!

Its a shaft inside the gearbox.

Sure that turns the diff not 100% sure though.

Drive shaft popped out. 5 mins to fix and £5 on gearbox Oil!

good result in the end then alot cheaper then the other options which you thought it might have been
