hello,
Me and a mate are soon to be building a track car, before we start i would just like to check a few things, i am 17 and hold a full driving licence, would i be able it drive on the track? also when you pay a trackday fee, does this include insureance? and the last thing, what requirements are needed for the car, i.e roll cage? bucket seats? harnesses(seats and harnesses would be going in anyways).

you need to tell your insurance company you'll be using it for track days. they might get bothered as you could be using a car for 'domestic, personal use and commuting' for competition and possibly winning money.
need a helmet, sometimes a cage, and good harnesses i think
the track fee will cover you recover if you crash but wont insure you.

Track use will void your road insurance
Your road insurance company would not be bothered if you are taking it on the track as you are not going to be covered unless you get a motorsport policy.
It's work joining a Motorclub as they will organise events and wuill have loads of people you can get advice from.
If you are going on the track then a helmet and race suit are essential, but a cage and harnesses are very highly recomended.
Some places may also want a National Race licence

Yes you will be allowed on track.
No this will not include insurance.
No cage needed, no bucket seats etc - you could take the family estate on track if you wished. If it's a track car solely for track days these would be good though.
Helmets are needed - though most places you can rent one for the day.

thanks for the fast replys, so bascily, i need motorsport insurance, the car would not be insured for road use anyway.
does anyone know where i could get motorsport insurance and how much i would be looking at? and the finak thing, how much are trackdays.

Surely not! its a whole different set of rules and if its only track use it'll have to be trailered everywhere and therefor you wont be racing it on the public roads

Insurance isnt essential, although probably advisable, as people said ive heard hic do it as part of there policy. Dont know how much extra it is either. Would be interesting also to know how much extra for track day insurance with specialist companies.

Insurance on track isn't necisary - I wouldn't bother, especially if it's just a built for track car. Yes it sucks if you crash it - but you built it especially for track use, i.e. Shouldn't matter too much if you do crash it. If however it was your everyday car I may suggest track insurance, though I didn't bother.
You will however need insurance to drive it to the track. If your planning on putting it on a trailer you'll need a suitable vehicle to tow it? surely a corsa will be too light to pull something of the same weight / heavier + trailer?
Just buy a shit heap nova, drop a XE in  or buy a Astra GTE or something. Do it up a bit, put some alloys on and tyres - get it insured to drive there and go track days.

im with HIC and they do offer free track day cover IF the day is organised by certain companies..... cant remeber who tho!
if you really going ot be using it for track days only, i would get a decent car with decent suspension tyres and engine, driving on a track gives you car such a hammering you wouldnt believe. id also get a cage and buckets....
