hi,

my GF's car needs plugs and we've been advised to replace leads as well.
It's a 1.6 16v sport
I've put some old ones in it for now which has sorted it out.

how much should I be spending on plugs?
how much should I be spending on leads?
where from... halfords? BMS?... will they tell me which ones to get?

cheers

plugs are around £1 each for the vx ones up to £2-3 each for the bosch ones

the leads are around £10-20 depending on make or upto £80 for the performance ones

dont go to halfords there bloody ripoff go to your local spares shop or vx dealers (you be surprised thay sometimes work out cheaper than anywhere else)

if the car is fairly new then get Vauxshall/Bosch replacements else just go to halfords and get their own brand

erm standard plugs and standard leads, cant be beaten on a car, i had them on my 140bhp 1.6

when i went to 180, i used plugs with one electrode for a while, worked so much better than the super 4 crap!

super 4 is gimic on any engine, better plugs out there for less money. on my old 140bhp engine i found the super 4's felt fluttery towards 7000rpm. standard ones didnt!

most plugs come pre gaped but you can check them if you want to be sure

the magnecore leads arnt cheap @ £60-120. The vx leads are around £30 and the pattern leads from a motors spares shop are around £10-20

lmfvauxhall do the vx plugs for £7.99 +£2 p&p but you can get them cheaper

No way on earth are standard vauxhall leads only £30,thats how much crappy bosch leads are, vaux ones are well over £100 and are very good quality.
Magnecour leads are exellent quality.
There is a few different ranges of magnecour leads,
copper core(classic cars),
electrosports 70 (7mm)
electrosports80 (8mm)
KV85 (competition)
R100 (10mm Racing)
Its the KV85's that most people go for when buying magnecour leads.

OK, plugs I know are needed
but the leads were only an advice from a mate.... so I can not afford to throw money where it might not be needed.

How can I test the leads that are on it now are good?
