its a simple question

what is wrong with 6x9s?

it seems to me every time someone mentions they are goin to buy a pair, someone else advises against it

im just curious why everyone is so against them

Had them in my MK II Escort and my Sapphire and they sounded great.

Realy good compromise, fit and sound wise.

Its all to do with sound staging and sound
cancelling by the way most coaxails and 6x9 are made/work thay dont cope with being amplified very well compaired to comp's also the freq responces of coaxails and 6x9's is poor compaired to comps and active systems

With the sound staging if you have 6x9's in the rear thay tend to pull the sound stage backwards and you dont sit in the back to you. that why most pro's and amateurs run comps with x-overs or active frontends and some times coaxails in the rear set to a low volume/gain

noise cancelation. If you have 6x9's in the parcel shelf and a sub in the boot spl of the sub acts against the 6x9's also the frequence of the sub will cancel out that of the 6x9's and will make the system sound flat in some cases

At the end of the day (comes night i know) its down to personal prefrence and your system requirements wether it be SQ or SPL or general use

i have 6x9s in my car and they were good for providing some bass before i had my sub

BUT now i have a sub they can hardly be heard and dont cope well with higher volumes - ive turned them down alot and set the CD player to only sound frequencys above about 60/70mhz to them (mid - high - no bass) to stop them rattling so much. They just provide a nice surround sound effect now which could be achieved with standard speakers.

My advice - if you are building up to a system with a sub, dont bother. If you arent going to bother with a subthen they can provide an amount of bass and give a good sound if set up right.

basically 6x9's is a great chocie for a chavvy set up for people that dont know better - volume and no quality.

For those after quality, its a big faux-pas which is why some forum ppl will knock you for your choice.

They tend to focus on the bass side, many ppl then cpl with a sub which dont work well together.

Some ppl think they sound great, if thats the case then each to their own.

I'd rather have large components up front running on high pass, coupled with some 6.5 or 8 inch mid-bass drivers running bandpass with a single 12 sub, but thats because I like the sound stage up front.

great for a budget system etc,can easy stick some in the parcel shelf and amp them!

bad for soundstage though

but if your building a good system, why do you need a coaxial speaker,in the back, providing bass, when u sit in the front, and have a sub for bass..

there are 2 saides to this arguement, yes, chavs do seem to go for some high wattage pioners and think that there system is the balls because they are deafened by em, but i have just got some cerwin vega 6x9's, not the highest wattage, but the sound quality is amazing.
