Right I just bought a portable HDD off loafofbrett but its only 40GB

I was thinking about buying something like a 120gb drive to put in there instead.
What sort of price should I be paying? Where are good places to buy from?
What makes are better than others?

Will put this 40gb one into my PS2 or something

I'd open it and find out if it's IDE or SATA before you buy a drive.
