My parents Renalt Scenic broke down today, AA reckons its only been firing on 2 cylinders and prob need 2 get all 4 replaced.

How big a job is this and any ideas on a rough cost?

Cyliders? Is that pistons, bores, piston rings? Loads of stuff that could be wrong...

Can't just replace cylinders in the engine unless its got liners which i dont think it has.

yeah thats what i thought, sounds like a big job just 2 get 2 them i guess? :?

think its the part where it fires as he said its not been firing on 2 of them? (sorry my engine knowledge is poor )

New engine sounds a cheaper option. Not a problem as you can find them from breakers... Looking at a few ££ though.

all the AA guy basically said was that the car was only firing on 2 cylinders and while ur replacing these u may as well get the other 2 done as well

Renault are known for using liners on a few of there engines.

coil packs guaranteed, they are all dodgy on renaults, i have renault dialogys if you need any prices or part numbers

That could be anything from knackered spark plugs to no piston rings. Need to get it checked over by a proper mechanic as some of the AA people are known to not be particuly good mechanics. I have experienced a few bad ones

i need the vehivle type code it will be written on the oval plate in the driver side door sill, will be in format of DA0H or something

the cars been towed away now 2 a garage somewhere unfortunetly, but thanks all the same
