why?
why would you want to bring attention to yourself from coppers?
its pointless and will end up in no end of fines till you remove it

i'm not sure there is one TBH, i think its down to the mot tester/policemans discretion
or if there is one, its VERY loud. something like 102dB or something

I don't want to bring attention to myself from coppers. I just like loud exhausts.

below the legal limit is loud enough,m= and you'll still get stopped and fined for having a non standard exhaust system

why?
P.s. according to a chap on PH:
quote: There's nothing in the highway code and the MOT regulations only say that the exhaust system needs to be complete, with no leaks ( major )and should be no louder that what would be expected for the type of car.

legaly yes they cannot stop you for having a non-standard system, but these rants go on and on and on for days in forums,
police WILL stop you if you have a loud exhaust (legal or not) then they will tell you to remove it at a test station, and have the tester sign the form they give you,
im not making the law im just telling you from personal expierience, lost of people been done over in this way,
also if it is not removed, and you are deemed to be breaching the peace they can legally confiscate your car,
they love that 1,
by all means go make your loud exhaust, and drive around making lost of noise, it'll just piss people off

there is a lot of this respect thy neighbours crap going round like the local mcdonalds and tescos have had to take there signs down because it may flash in somones window.
There is a legal noise limit but i canot remeber what it is.
when the escort cossworth got released that had to have its noise reduced because it was too loud.

If it is legal they have no reason to make you remove it.
