Don't rule it out, although South Americans don't usually use their christian or surnames fully, so they probably like their nicknames and think they are the dogs cahoonas.

Thierry = Thierry isn't it? Didn't think names translated into anything, they just are what they are. Might be wrong about Europe, but not the case in South America.
