Help, when i put my gears into reverse it makes the most aweful grating noise (so embarasing) i've been starting car in gear to stop this, what can it be and what can i do to stop it. Also having trouble changing gears been nearly at the point of breaking the gear stick trying to get it into gear i need. Its not a women thing either as had boyfriend driving it and it happens with him. Car is a corsa B by the way.
Please help!

Reverse gear grinding is common on most manual gear boxes as reverse doesnt have a syncro (make sure your at a full stop before selecting reverse, sometimes deselecting and reselecting a forward gear before selecting reverse can help). However if all your gears are difficult to engage then you could have a clutch problem.

I had/have this problem. Way round it is:
Make sure you are totally stopped when you select reverse. If you are moving a slight bit forwards it happens a lot more.
Press the clutch in then out once or twice before you select reverse, duno why but that fixes it

Reset the gear linkage, doesn't take long and is worth a try.
It solved my issues with hard to select gears.

yea, if you have a very low biting point then its likely that the clutch cable has stretched and needs adjusting
