i know its due to oil burning, but at a loss as to how.

piston rings are new
compression is good
now on 2nd set of valve stem seals and 2nd set of exhaust valves
breathers are free (not blocked)
idle is smooth, revs pick up smoothly, ignoring the plumes of smoke out the exhaust the engine runs really well

HELP

is it a new exhaust? often if the exhaust is old and have been filled with oil from another engine problem it takes ages for the oil to burn out hte fiberglass baffels

as said if it has smoke in the exhaust it will take a good drive to clear it through.

Does it smoke on idle or only when revved?

smokes all the time, the full exhaust system is either new or less than 6 months old

just driven it home. runs spot on but smokes. pulls well etc
when we had the engine apart the only problem we could find was with the exhaust valves, which were replaced along with the stem seals.

used much? may be oil in the exhaust from the valve stem problem that needs to burn off?

my engine smoked on acceleration and coast-down after being rebuilt. I ran it for 500 miles with 3 oil changes and it eventually cleared.

what did you do to the bores during the re-build?

Rob, get some pics/vids if you can, its difficult to guestimate without knowing how bad the smoke is

did you use bigger oil control rings as well as compression rings? probably did but easily overlooked.

When you changed the valves did you grind them in or just replace them?
If they weren't ground in then they will take a while to form their own "seals"

the new valves all have triple angle seats on them, lapped into their respective ports on the head.

the rings i used came as 4 sets of 3 rings, so i'd hope they were the same size

piston ring gaps set 120 degrees?

timing ok?

are the compression rings tapered ones? if so they could have been fitted upside down?
