I was just wondering if de-catting a 1.4 16v is worth it? Does it free the system up like an uprated air filter? How much and where can you buy them from?

Thanks SRi_Si

not worth it on a standard engine/exhaust to be honest, you be best of saving the money and putting it towards a mantzel/lexmaul inlet, then sorting the exhaust out,

the inlet really seems to be the big starting poing on the 1.4 and 1.6 16v engines

Do a search for mantzel or dbilas inlet manifolds.

Plenty of info.

Im actually looking for a new inlet for my X14XE, but they all seem really expensive. Where is the cheapest place to get a new inlet? I've tried eBay but they only seem to have the standard ones at the moment.

I think i heard somebody does mantzel copies? Not sure who does them though.

Any help is appreciated.

A guy called VX Paul does them on MigWeb. I don't think he has any at the moment.

The next option is to get a second hand one, but this is not very likely. Most are sold between mates and fetch quite a bit.

Other than that, a new one is £520 from Mantzel or £460 from Dbilas/Regal. Both do the same job, different name. These replace the upper half of the inlet and move the throttle body from down the side if the engine. They shorten the inlet tract and give better power over any other mod you can do to the X14/16XE.(apart from TB's or Carbs)
There is no point in doing anything to these engines without these or carbs/TB's.
.
Heres a pic, excuse the mess

Is it worth the £400+ if i were to buy a new one?

What sort of power increase would you expect to have over a standard X14XE system? Also would it be possible to use the mantzel inlet with a modified standard airbox?

The power increase is about 12BHP on a standard X16XE.

Don't bother with the one on E-Bay. A load of crap for the price. Both Mantzel and Dbilas are cheaper than that to buy.

They do work with a standard airbox if you use a Cav 1.7TD intake pipe.

What estimated power figure would you get from the x14xe? So all i would need to change is the pipe from the airbox going to the inlet? Thanks

I'm not sure of gains of a 1.4.

If you buy a Mantzel, you get everything you need, gaskets, bolts, pipes and intake hose. By the way, i just read the e-bay advert. 22BHP
