Painted the casings on my morrettes with satin black spray paint (plasticote stuff) made sure they were spotless and clean etc, painted them with 4 coats leaving 15 mins between them.
expected them to be dry by this morning but the paint has a soft tacky feel to it. any advice on what I have done wrong/ how to solve it

We had the same trouble with putty primer, had to use a heatgun to help it harden.

did you rub down the plastic to roughen the surface? leave longer periods between each coat. if you laquered them then it says to leave to fully cure up to 24hrs.

all I did was sand down the plastic, and sprayed the paint on in 4 thin coats, 15 mins between coats as it says on the tin. think its just a matter of waiting for it to fully harden, ill give it until tomorrow morning

my mate has got the same problem with his corsa engine bay he sprayed it last sunday morning and the paint is still not gone off hard yet so he is having to get it sandblasted

if you have used rattle cans it will take long to dry as its celly paint (1k) it can go both ways celly can dry or look dry straight away or take ages, but it doesnt go off properly for a day or so, if you have a hot room/ cupborad in your house i would put it in there for an hour or so

You used plasticoat paint
It's vinyl paint, the only use for vinyl paint is on the walls at home. Strip it off and do it with proper paint.

i know that, but we are SPECIFICALLY talking about Morette headlights, which ARE ready for paint.

Plastikote Barbecue paint, worked on my rocker cover, lexmaul inlet, exhaust manifold, cant see a reason not to use it...

He said he just used the normal stuff. The normal stuff is the worst paint I have ever had to use in my life. It never completely dries and it has no adhesion to it so it peels quickly. The BBQ paint is a different kettle of fish. I used to to paint my exhaust on my motorbike, worket a treat.

maybe the bbq paint works best on metal though, not plastic?
