Right i spent most of last night trying to setup a laptop that i brought to my broadband wirelessly using a wireless router.
ive managed to get the laptop to find the connection and connect to it (little ballon come up at the bottom saying connection excellent and running at 54kbs or something)
but if you try and access the net it doesnt work. BTW i have not got a clue when it comes to computers so i am probably missing something obvious, I hope

this is where i am not sure 
Ive set it up physically so that the ethernet cable goes from my bt broadband router to the wireless one and plugged it into the mains. the home PC still works through the origional router via USB.
All i did on the laptop was switch on the reciver.
there is a button that you press on the front of the wireless router that flashes and is suposed to go white once it has got a connection. However after flashing it goes back to been orange

you cant just plug the router into your phone line and expect it to work how does it know your username and password for a start to connect to your ISP.
once your computer is connected to the router then fire up IE and browse to http://192.168.1.1 (IIRC that correct for linksys but will tell you in the manual.
Linksys default login is usually admin/admin
You need to get all the info from your ISP, you will have already been given this probably

yer i tried this millions of times last night to no avail 
yer the bookley said it was that and the password should be admin. but i never get prompted for a password it just says it cant connect and do i want to work offline.

has it definatly connected?
if you click start > run > cmd
then type ipconfig and see if youve got a 192 IP address.
if its 169 or just 0.0.0.0 or "Media State disconnected" then its not getting an IP address from the router or its not connected properly

yer home pc is fine as its running from the bt router via USB still

just did what you said and i have got 169.254.208.251
media disconnected.
where do i go from here? it is getting a signal as it says that it is fine

Log into your router...
open web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1
Then enable DHCP. It should be there somewhere!

its not picking up an IP address fro the router, try going into your network properties and adding a manual address of 192.168.1.2 or something with subnet 255.255.0.0
then try going to your router via IE again
