I need to replace the bush that goes at the bottom of the steering column, and unfortunally u have to take out the steering column to do it.
Only problem im facing is one of the bolts its held in by is a "sheer head bolt" and says u need to drill it out and replace afterwards.
Anyone know if u can replace with a normal bolt afterwards? or how u get a sheer head bolt back in? i dont get it

Well where it sits i dropped it down but it wont pull of the bottom as it has a big hexagon piece where the universal shaft bolts onto

yes if you push it down the shaft will get out with the bearing also remove the universal shaft completley even from where it is attached the steering rack so you have space to get the shaft out from under the dashboard ! hope this helps !! btw change the upper bearing too as prone to fail if buttom one had gone !

Ah now i remember exactly how there is a small sleve between the steering shaft and bearing you have to remove it (destroy it) when you buy the new bearing you got another one !! it's a small circular insert

Done it!!! just after i bumped the topic i noticed u still werent online and noticed the new bush came with the little insert.
So popped it out and it pulled off by opening it up, then the main bush slid off the shaft piece of p1ss!!
Refitted new one, put it all back together and woohoo its done!!
Thanks to Cossie for an amazing help guide
