Well you have made a bit of an error dude - "mutant" and "upgrade" don't go together I'm afraid! Mutant are bout the worst on the market!

coulda sworn the biggest speakers that can go in the doors are 16.5 cm as standard, lol.

any ways i can happily reccomend my new set of rainbow components, the sounds fantastic, but there a bit more than the 35 quid you paid for the mutants.

My mate works for armour automotive who import these into the UK (also import Kicker and Autoleads gear) and they are widely regarded as utter shite. Mutant is also the same gear that is sold as Ripspeed etc. Sound quality is awful - its budget gear that really isn't an upgrade!

I'm using JBL gear atm, but have used Sony in the past, Pioneer headunits etc - all seems to be good stuff. I'm not a major ICE head or anything, but I like things to sound good - even thought I'm tight! and I have been chuffed with what I've used so far

i had phoenix gold 17's or 16.5's, whatever. sounded amazing, sounded sexily clear and my head unit would of made it distort before the speakers. hundred quid well spent imo

My original GLS ones with Kenwood head unit are pukka - I did something with my stereo whilst waiting for my girlfriend to come out of work and completely transformed the sound

Exactly what I was told in a different thread - then I said that my girlfriends 6x9's are using the wires for the existing rear speakers and are much louder than the originals. As long as the wattage of the speakers can be matched by the head unit, they should in theory sound better?

Make sure you wire in the cross over as this will distribute the power correctly between mid and tweeter

Loudspeakers typically have a woofer, a tweeter and sometimes a midrange driver...a crossover dedicates each driver to a particular frequency range.
