Dom - these are probably all things you've heard floating around on the web and probably won't happen to 99% of users.
The new PSU's from what I understand now have a fan in them. The scratched disks are more often than not due to people moving their 360 whilst a disk is inside.
I admit it does have it's flaws, no system is perfect afterall.

not whilst playing a game online Dave, it pauses the download in order to give you better speeds.
You can still download whilst playing single player games and browsing the marketplace. You can also queue downloads which is pretty cool.

Lockups (a games company tried to sue microsoft for freezes in it's games), heat issues with the PSU, random reboots, faulty hard drives....a few more floating around on top of the scratching disks - it's a bout all i can remember off the top of my head
most of those problems are related to the faulty PSU's not problems in themself

have had the console reboot and switch itself off numerous time and a few demos lock the console, let alone PGR
i know the PSU was fixed, but its a bodge - wack a fan in the PSU
But yes dave, most things have it's flaws some bigger than others, but microsoft still had a few biggies

I can only give my own experience of the console so it's in no way indicative of the 'wider picture' so to speak.
One game locks up for me, PGR3. When I open up my friends list. This is a well known issue and is a game programming issue.
I've never had any trailers, demos or movies lock up on me. Not once. My PSU doesn't really get that hot, it's well ventilated and generally quite chilly in my front room anyway.
I know there are some issues with certain xbox games locking up the console. I know Monkey ball locks up on mine when you play Monkey Football all the other game modes work fine
I would be interested to know exactly what demos have been causing people problems.

I had a quick go of splinter cell multiplayer, ran around for about 15 minutes without any problems, very strange.
That reminds me, there's a single player demo out for Splinter Cell out now if you're interested
