Basically old mans got a 1.6 sport and got a mate(old macanic) to do the water pump and cambelt and he didnt time it properly, so you can imagine what happened, bent valves etc etc.

So we are just trying to think of what to do with the car.

Have a very tight budget to fix etc, so the options are:

1. Try and find a cheap engine and try and find a place locally to fit

2. Find a cheap bloack and try and fit.

3. Try and sell the car as it is not running

4. Strip it and scrap anything not sold

Its a 1998 R Reg 1.6 16v sport with 113k on the clock, average condition for the age, bit of rust on the bootlid but not alot else, has irmscher springs and shocks, corsa C sxi rims, FK grille, alpine headunit, JL sub and MTX amp and infinity components(could be taken out)

the only pics i have:

I know its abit hard to advise but any help is appreciated on how much its worth now and how much if splitted etc or how much engines genrally go for etc

Fix it, valves will only be bent, not too bad to sort, just replace them, put a new headgasket on, and new cambelt and bits.

New engine would be about £300 + fitting.

Find a second hand head, turf it on with new gasket and bolts... Could be done for under £100 quid I would think if the labour is gonna be free.

CLOWN!

Get a 2nd hand head or rebuild the old one. Try and do it yourself too with the help of a knowledgable mate.

that happened to me when i had a full engine rebuild on my x16xe i bent 4 valves because as soon as i heard summit funny under the bonnet i turned the car off!!! so depends on how many valves you have bent? i would say for the price of valves get it repaired mate i payed about 3-5 pound each if that just take them out roll them down a straight bench, desk etc you will tell which ones are bent then get a good mechanic to time your car back up for you mate i would say at the very most 100 quid all in all to sort your problems out
