no thats wrong mate. the boot only has to open only for the purpose of checking for corrosion so as long as it can be opened by any means its ok or if it wont open at all then looking at the boot floor through the rear seats is ok.
im not going to argue cuz i aint a tester.but i got a tester check today and on MOT computerisation it does say that boot must be in working order.

if the boot dont open it is a reason for refusal to test but there is nothing that says if the handle on the boot is removed and the boot is opperated by a switch in the car it will fail

true. my bad.
if the boot cannot be opened then the mot will fail. tester needs boot open to check prescribed areas. if however the tester does not want to use poppers etc to open boot he CAN fail it. doen to tester's discretion.
