Hi there
I'm at a recruitment presentation for South Yorkshire Police next Wednesday and for those that have experienced anything similar before, I am just wondering what they are like, what they exactly involve and what would you consider appropiate clothing? Smart Casual?
Thanks

No idea about the presentation but for I would go smart- suit etc as you have the chance to Network with people who deal with recruitment. Therefore dress to leave a good impression!

They do still recruit white males The policy of recruiting minorities doesnt mean they recruit 100% from minority groups.

I know mate, I fear that as I fit that description I may aswell not bother. I'll just have to prove my worth and try my hardest as expected. Can only do me best.

Thats not the case whatsoever. I know two people who have joined in the last couple of years who are young white males. The situation is there but it has been played up by the media somewhat.

If you read what i said i didn't say they don't recruit white males, but its considerably harder now than it was 20 years ago if you happen to be a white male.

make sure you wear a suit, or at least black trousers, shirt and tie and a decent jacket

This only happened in one force as far as i know, and i agree it isnt acceptable.
The myth has been built up by those who failed, that thought they shouldnt have. Simple as that. The police are just trying to get more ethnic groups to think of the police as a career and maybe apply, they dont just hand jobs out. The majority of applicants/officers are white males, which isnt always the best type of person for all situations.
Basically, if your good enough, then they cant fail you...its as simple as that!
The usualy process is:
Induction evening
Paper application
Assessment centre
Medical/fitness
Sounds like an induction type evening your going to, so Id agree with smart casual.
And it was alot harder to get into the police 20 years ago.....now the main hurdle is the day at the assessemnt centre....back then you had top brass coming to your house, formal interviews infront of a board, and a 3/4 days away at an assessment site
