Apparently the original 360 can't output 1080p at all.
So the hdmi port is combined with a new scaler to enable 1080p.

I have no problems with them advancing the console though, even if mine will be old hat. I have no issue so long as mine continues to work.

I've always been lead that the 360 could do 1080p, it was just the case that the component and vga cable dont have enough bandwidth for it?
If it can't then that sucks a bit, especially if there going to upscale it giving a worse picture than 1080i
Though im waiting for the new 360, if it's cheap enough i'll get one

My R74 went a bit funny after trying to run my 360 on 1080. It only appeared on one half of the screen, the other half was black.

i hardly suspect this update will cause 'uproar' from the general public because i hardly see the whole of the nation giving that much of a toss about a port. ffs

There must be a new version of the 360 coming at some point with an HD-DVD in it (rather than having to have the add-on)?

my mate was using his 360 on his tv downstairs which is a sony crt, he came round mine and saw mine running on the samsung r74 and the next day he went out and got a sony bravia(he didnt get the samsung as he saw it was a fingerprint and dust magnet).
i never saw it on his old tv but i think that says it all really

eh? lol
Your CRT tv will only support up to 576i/p which isn't high def. The 360 can go up to 1080i currently, with the new version of the 360 having a new upscaler by ANA that will allow full 1080p.
So no it won't be the same quality, far off it when playing the 360 and running it at 1080i. The only problem having a LCD/Plasma is that Standard Def will look a bit pants, but thats to be expected

normal tv will look a bit cack, as it's upscaled (ie: made bigger) to fit on the LCD screen.
And yea, if the screen has a sticker for HD then it'll do 720i/p (atleast) and 1080i (usually).

It'd be more annoying if it was half the size of the original.
