nope...until the plane is cruising...that's what I have been told while on a plane before

Yes. Once it has taken off, and the seatbelt light is off, they can be used.

I got told to turn my wifi off on the psp though so no multi player gaming

Technicaly you can use it whenever you want, you can use your phone too. But they have silly rules.

I've used my phone at 2000 feet. It worked, a bit of a weak signal though.

i'd hazzard a guess he was correcting the spelling of the original thread creator rather than suggesting you were up a mountain on your phone.
