my mate has 17s on his corsa and clipped one of the front tyres on a kurb. there is now a slither of rubber flapping about on the tyre.

would this be a MOT failure, classing as damage to the tyre wall

Yes, and pretty unsafe - I'd tell him to get it changed.

if you fold the flap back and can see the cords, yes.

i wouldnt say it was unsafe its only a very thin piece, and though i say flapping, it doesent but you can pull it away from the tyre

no you cannot see the cords, as said above it is only thin

on my old wheels i hit a curb and did the same, couldnt see the cord so past the mot but i got stoped by the police and he said it was illegal, so i said it passed a mot so it cant be, 20 mins later he let me off, lol
