just personal experience so stand by my claim

If you have experienced the opposite then I respect your claim - not just pulled this out of thin air

optimistic figure, check any of the major tuners and they all quote around 20hp increase for a stage 1 which would mean around 260hp at best. Think you may mean a stage 2 for that cash and estimated HP.

keep the comments coming - im also considering a GSi

Stage 1 220bhp not 260, they are 200bhp as standard.

All depends on a number of variables.

But in general the more effective your cooling and the less restrictive, then you will find you will gain power, thats why people always fit larger/more effective intercoolers.

For e.g my standard C20LET on the corsa had a large forge FMIC, std cally power figure is 204bhp, the corsa made 235bhp with no other mods other than a k&N which probably lost it power!

Its ALWAYS worth making sure your intercooling is effective as it can be, reduces risk of DET, makes car run quicker and more efficiently

yes intercooler will improve performance as most aftermarket ones are more effciient dropping inlet temps thus more dense air

Depends on the car setup but some gains will be experienced - on a standard car the gains will be minimal but on a boosted car the turbo's run hotter thus will feel the effects more

Plus its not about outright BHP its the delivery and response which is chnaged when considering after market intercoolers

VXR's arent 200 brake standard, Try reading the whole post .

Yeah it's a bit optimistic, thourgh regal (yeah, i know ) quote 275 Brake for a stage 1 re-map, so if you were upgrading the standard IC to a larger one 280 would be possible, if the map could achieve it in the first place. Like you say though, I think you'd need an exahust and sports cat aswell, but then you've nearly doubled the £1500 to include the exhaust .

Read somewhere that the 4's have more room in the engine bay (most likely due to the lack of pedestrian impact safety built into the metal work/ front bumper), so cooling isn't as much a problem. Even still, upgrading the intercooler shouldnt have anything but positive effects!

Agred unless you have a full exhaust system , sports cat, pre cat and FMIC and VXR tuurbo the max you are going to get is around the 220-230 mark

to get anywhere near 280 you need all of the above and a CS 4 or a Phase 4.

I personally think its all about drivability and wouldnt go above a TMS Stage 2

Sports cat isnt necessarily needed.
But I agree, stage 1 with some added extras would be sufficient to retain driveability!

Thanks People

ive seen Good quality IC on ebay goin for a good price...Someone said to me to use a Frontera FMIC as its cheaper and is very good as for fittin that wouldnt be a problem...just the pipes which i can order/get made up...

The 1st think im doin is Coilovers and Athraite(Sp) wheels and a full cat back system and Chav valve....

I just dont want it to be slower that my old Std XE corsa as i will be disapointed...

Ive Had a Really good think about this and i dont really know what to do...Ive got a van for work which i use mostly but spending £8k on astra and to use it when i go out cruise, shows & shops ect is it really worth it for the amount of use it would get...
I mean i wouldnt even use 4,000 miles a year so payin the insurance and Fianance(sp) back i cant see it being worth while tbh...

What about a Let corsa? i want something i can thrash and have the ultimate fun in?easy to fix ect...

What do you lot think?

In a MK2 they are pretty fast.

Not sure what a MK3 is like. Its all about the noise they make! Just thinking they are alot cheaper than an Astra and have a big lovely sounding engine, something a bit different!
