Sooo, if you decide to buy a years insurance. What happens if half way through that year you modify the car and want to declare it? Do you just pay a lump sum?

I did that once. Just added the cost onto it.

So like you tell them, and they say, thats going to be £100 extra or something, and you just pay it in one go and the mod is covered?

ye they did this when i claimed added another £20 onto the next payment or summat

some insurance companies will insure you with the mods but in the event of a claim will only return the car to standard..
You have to stipulate you want the mods covered cost for cost which will bump you price up alot.

I wouldnt bother with getting the mods covered for replacement I dont think. Gonna be worth going fully comp though, best idea ive had in a long time I think.

you pay the extra up until the end of your policy........same way if you change cars mid policy & it goes up!!

Yeah but this is paying yearly, assuming you have already paid the whole amount...

Its worth pointing out its best checking with your insurance company before you mod the car. Some may not cover you at all if you mod it. If thats the case and you mod it then tell them, then you'll either have to remove the mods or completely cancel the policy.

If paying monthly they would probably adjust the monthly payments accordingly, although ive never paid monthly so not too sure.

They calculate how much your to be charged then work out how much based on the length remaining on your policy - I think you'll pay that either in one go or added to the remaining payments.
Im not 100% about all this though

all they will do is spread the cost over the remaning payments unless it's a low amount like £15 or that and you can just pay it off..

for example-
When ive changed car mid policy & need to pay more they just say right that will be an extra £100 for the remaining 6 months of your existing policy, will we charge that to the same card you bought your insurance with.....yes....& thats it.
I expect adding mods will be treated in a similar way as both is just altering an existing policy. However I always pay insurance up front so if your paying monthly they might split the £100 over the 6 months remaining added to what your already paying.

Like if you change 3 months into your years insurnace, you will have 9 months remaining of what will be increased to reflect the change.
So if your paying £50 month & your mods increase it by £100 overall you'll pay (100quid / 9 remaining months) £59...odds.

Aaaaah I see, nice one for clearing that up. So they still treat it as monthly payments but you pay them all off in one go, the mods are added to the payment although you only pay the extra as the initial cost is covered.
