just wondering, is it possible to fit tyres yourself, or do you have to go somewhere like kwik fit?

Tyre levers, soap, a lot of patience. You might as well pay to get them put on.

if anyone could give me a basic guide as to how to do this, it'd be very much appreciated.

You need to get the old tyre off first, then apply some soap to the new tyre and rim. Place the tyre on and then make sure the tyre bead is in the middle if the rim, where the diameter is less. Then you need to work round with the levers to get the lower side on. Then do the same for the top. Then blow up the tyre until you hear two loud cracks. Thats the bead of the tyre going onto the rim. If you've never done it before or been shown, then don't bother. You'll end up ripping the bead on the tyre.
But, why would you want to do that instead of paying £20 for 4. It'll cost you over £20 for some tyre levers.
