ok, here goes, i have a 1.0 12v corsa B, and over 3k revs, she makes a hissing noise, my friend who is knowledgeable on all things vaux says its the timing chain making the noise, or at least summat on that side of the block. is it possible to tighten the chain? or does it have to be replaced??

Firstly, Help Zone.
Secondly. Mine doesn't do that, and it's on 68k. Go pass 3.5k/4k rpm and it makes a high pitched noise though, like a turbo this is normal iirc.
I doubt it'll be the timing chain to be honest - it is generally supposed to last the liftime of the vehicle! How many miles has yours done?

You could record the noise and post it on here, to give people an idea what the noise sounds like.

Timing chains usually rattle when they are on their way out. They are meant to be a non serviceable item but if you drive it hard then they do start rattling

Are you sure? I've never heard that before, will be a costly car to run if its getting done that often.

1.0 12v timing chains are commonly noisy. I have replaced 2 at our garage. You cant adjust them but have to buy a new chain and tensioner. Think its a hydraulic tensioner.
