Yes, and no.

You can disable the EGR and SAI. The EGR recirculates gases from the exhaust to the inlet. Used when cruising or on coastdown.

SAI injects air into the exhaust to heat the cat up, this lowers emissions on startup.

No point in doing either of the above IMO.

Emission Consumption Optimisation Technology.

But you can't blank 'ecotec' off as there is not a part of the engine called 'ecotec'

Don't blank off using a coke can! It'll burn through the thin steel and won't do anything any good.

ecotec was just a name given to the engines.

The c16xe engine was called ecotec but had neither egr or sai so blanking these off does not disable ecotec!!

C16XE= PRE ecotec, NO EGR or SAI

X16XE= ecotec, with EGR and SAI

and the C16XE has lower compression too

Since when did the c16xe become pre ecotec?

Vauxhall gave it the ecotec name at launch!!

my calibra turbo had a ecotec spark plug cover
doesnt mean its a ecotec its the same as any other c20let
just vauxhalls general branding around that time

The c16xe does have EGR and SAI built into the head but it wasnt used until they launched the x16xe. the c16xe WAS an ecotec engine though, the EGR and SAI arent what makes the engine an ecotec.
