To be honest I was sceptical when first using one. I wasnt sure it would be as good as it was. It makes the paint feel alot smoother than polishing and gets rid of imperfections on the paint and tree sap etc... The first time you use one the clay will be filthy!

sounds good, as depending what mood Im in I can be pretty anal when it comes to cleaning. not sure how dirty it would be as i've gave it a good clean minus the claybar and its sparkly 
mite have a look on the bay as I aint paying halfags prices

I thought the same, id polished it the week before and kept it clean etc... but it was still filth. It gets rid of bits the polish doesnt.

I found that too
although lauras paint is only 18 months old the clay bar made the paint so much smoother and easier to wash and wax after
and as others said I steam clean then wash the car then keep plenty of water on the paint and using the lube supplied start to clay the car a panel at a time then jet it off
took around 2 hours and there wasnt that much to pick up with the paint being so new
might clay the scoobie but I think it would take all day

it takes me about 30mins to do mine now......
but i do it every week, so theres not usually much to remove.
this summer seems to have braught out millions of small flys that land on my roof, bonnet, windscreen and bake on in the sun. - messed up my brand new 'mothers' bar

detailing spray and clay bar = £13 for halfords..1st time take your time and do it well..You will deffo notice the difference over just a polish.

Clay bars are brilliant, i felt bloody stupid doing mine - you feel like your rubbing play doh over your car! But it is brilliant.
As said before the more lube the better

Where does T-cut type stage fit into this? Before or after clay?

I bought a clay bar over a year ago cut it into three and am still re using the first 3rd so your doing something really wrong Matt
You'd be better off buying a Sonus Green clay bar as you get more of it for less money then just buy quick detailer or buy a gallon of Detailling (finish) dilute.
Seeing as you love cleaning your car so much dont bother with the shit they sell in Halfords buy decent products and fewer items:
I got:
1 Gallon Megs shampoo
currently use Gold class and tech wax as a glazing product (which I will be throwing in the bin)
Buying Klearcote Vanilla hand glaze (for a nice wet look)
followed Collenie wax
Dont need anything else
If you have a reltively new car this is all you need unless you are that anal you want to remove all paint defects/swirls. (which I am swaying to )

Also once you clay bar your car as long as you was it reguarly there is no need to clay it for at least 6 months cos its pointless and abrassive to paint.

Just bought some collenite 476, take it thats more of a sealer? Rather than a wax such as tech wax & the like
So...
Wet car
Wash wheels
Clean windows
Wash car with mit
Rinse off
Dry
Clay
Megs Scratch-X (Is this stuff any good? Or is it same as T-cut?)
Auto Glym
Tech Wax
Collenite
Chill, then walk pet whippet & have my tea

Its not a sealant like p21s its there to make the paint more deeper/glossier but in order to get the best finish it depends on what glazing product you use which I would say Tech Wax is ok but not great.
I would:
Wet car
Wash wheels
Clean windows
Wash car with mit
Rinse off
Dry
Clay
T cut scratch
Tech Wax
Collenite
I wouldnt bother with the Autoglym
Scratch X it meant to help with swirls but in all honesty the only way to get rid of them is to use a PC so I would just use T cut to sort out the scratch.
Also after you have used the collenite take some time the next day to quik detail the car and put another coat down the results will amaze you. I got tired re doing mine so one side of the car is like a mirror untill i can sort the other side
