Just curious about this one - am I correct in thinking that chipped consoles are banned from online services now?
If so how does this work - the console itself gets blacklisted or are they doing something IP-wise with your internet connection?
Strikes me that neither method is watertight, IP will change but also device id must be in the firmware of the console somewhere? That could be altered surely?

I believe it is done with the hardware of the console, but people are working on a fix to change this number, or mask it from the scans..........

Maybe they'll come up with another way, but then so will Bill.

It's definitely based on console and not IP.
What part of memory it's in though I don't know.
If it was in some ROM the only way to get past would be to serve up an alternative to this when queried I assume.

At the end of the day, if its possible to block something...its possible to unblock it.
In most cases anyway.

Then i'm sure they'll just start banning live accounts as well then to set the scammers back £30 a time.

The actual console is banned no matter who tries to use it.
surely they know if the firmware has been updated other then their own live updates??

Which means microsoft are winning. People won't keep paying, otherwise it'd be pointless.

I just meant, that if microsoft pull another trick out of their sleve, then that's another £20, then potentially another, the another, etc...

i agree, i wudnt have my console chipped or muddled with, theres enough worry of it red lighting me without someone fiddling around with it to save a few quid on a game. Allbeit im suffering with the region problem at the moment

the reason they bring out new equipment is to try stop this from happening we only spoil it for our selfs when developers stop making games online is great cause they can ban people from using copied games
