Once it's on and the ECU logs a fault - if you then change the faulty part does the light go off automatically or do you need to plug in a diagnostic tester and clear the code and swith light off? Can this be done by just disconnecting the battery?

The light goes straight off.
And the fault will clear eventually.

not always 100% ture, sometimes you need to clear the code before the EML goes out

Can yo uclear it by disconnecting the battery for a period of time? OR do you need a diagnostic reader?

Some say 30 ignition on and off's do it, but it doesn't on mine.
Apparently a set number of cold starts are needed without the fault occuring before the ecu clears it.

That 30 on/off - is that just turning the ignition on and off rather than starting the car 30 times?

So - I've changed the EGR with an EGR that was 2nd hand but guaranteed to be working BUT ECU light is still on. Paid for the Tech 2 to be plugged in again to see if the fault had to be cleared through this (having been unable to clear it through >30 cold starts and having disconnected the battery several times and for several days) and..... the Tech 2 now reports "P1405 EGR Valve Feedback Incorrect".
The car passed the MOT with flying colours, drives beautifully, starts fiirst time, cruises, accelerates, idols perfectly, great fuel consumption but the ECU light is STILL on - any new ideas please?

When they clear the code the light goes out for 30 secs (or so) then code comes back and then light comes back on.
I changed the EGR for a 'guaranteed' second hand EGR.
Reports back :"P1405 EGR Valve Feedback Incorrect"

but surely if the EGR was faulty the car would be playing up in some form or other - the car runs sweet, starting, accn, etc etc. Passed the MOT with flying colours including emmisions...
