Hi, im looking at putting a 2.0l in next year, but in the mean time i want to get the car ready for it,
i.e brakes, suspension, ect ect,
1st thing im looking at doing is the brakes, what sort of brakes would be the best im hoping to be able to get them off a donour car or scrappy ect becasue cant afford £300 / £400 plus on reyland ect brakes, what would be the best car to get them off?
Also is it ideal to get rear disc conversion or will bigger calipers and discs up front be ok?
Cheers Guys

You can use 2.0 16 valve brakes from a Cav, Astra or Calibra.
These fit straight on and are 4 stud. you will need the calipers, carriers, discs and pads. Big improvement over standard.
Or, you can buy a V6 brake kit from LMF (Or second hand). These are 5 stud, and quite a bit bigger than the 2.0 brakes. But, suffer from more pedal travel.
EDIT - Rear discs are not needed IMO.

Like Dean said you could go the easy option and fit 4stud 2.0 disks and calipers or go vectra 5stud v6 disks and calipers which will need drilling to 4 stud unless an LMF set are used which are 4stud. If you go with the v6 steel braided brake hoses and getting the system pressure bled should help with the pedal travel issues.

You can get everything off the donor car. You don't need the hoses. They are easy to fit, a straight swap.
Make sure you have wheels big enough to fit them though.

Yes, quite a difference. Mainly in the feel of the brakes. The 2.0 feel a lot better.
IIRC, the V6 needs 15 or bigger, the 2.0 i'm not sure of.

you can fit 14" wheels over the 2.0 brakes.
v6 need 15" but watch the weights on the inside incase they catch the caliper.

Ah excellent so i can keep my sxi wheels on and they will fit behind, going to have a look at scrappy at week end then see what i can find!
Is it worth upgrading to braided hoses or not much diffrence?

Braided hoses will help with the feel of the pedal. The brakes will feel sharper.
Old hoses lose their rigidity and can lead to shit feel. While your doing it it's worth it.
