Been looking at crossers, are the ones with larger exhausts generally 4 strokes? Also what are required to make them road legal? Lights, speedo etc?

A large silencer and small header pipe is a 4 stroke and a big header (expansion chamber) with a small silencer is usually a 2 stroke.
On off road bikes this is.

Oh and you really dont want a motocross bike on the road. If your doing anything more than about 3 mile road trips. Its just not designed for that and will eat tyres, oil, engine wear etc and not alot of fun when in traffic.
If your wanting to commute mainly then do a bit of off rod then look at enduro bikes or trail bikes. not a motocrosser.

As one person says get a Cg125 if you want to learn gears.

I would get either an Italjet Dragster Or Gilera Runner 125sp both use a single cylinder 2t liquid cooled engine and are very reliable.
Then pop a malossi 172 kit and your see 17.5bhp enough to make them go 85mph clock speed on the normal gearing anyways.
Should blow a few cars away at the lights.

Dont get an rs125 they are expensive and unreliable.

Dt125 are normally ristricted or ragged

As sigibbons says dont bother with a motorcorss bike on the road there not designed to be ridden day in day out.
And plus you will need lights etc and also take an sva test to make it road legal.
It will just be a massive target for bike theifs also.

My commute will be around 3 miles by road but if I can get something to carry over a footbridge I can cut it down to 1/2 mile Thats whats swaying me away from the RS

was going to get one of them, but ended up with my 250, even though that would of been faster, i personally love a deep four stroke over a tinny two stoke sound any day

but apart from that go for it!
