i have got a spare XE that im gona rebuild for my kadett, i have never tackled anything this big before but thought i would give it a go and if i get any troubles a mechanic at work has offered to help, basically i want to know is what kind of stuff do i need to get to rebuld it and how much and where do i get them from?
I know the basic things like piston rings, gaskets etc will all be replaced but i want to do a goo djob but then again dont want to start spending a stupid amount.
Also a few little tweeks will be done along the way like cams and webber 45`s but what else can i do thats not that expensive that will help me?
And any more advise is much apreciated!

the exchange units from vauxhall are rebuilt engines. i looked into getting one myself for my new engine but i wanted arp bolts so it didnt make sense to buy a newly built engine only to take it apart again.
for a full rebuild you would need
bottom end gasket set
main bearing shells
big end shells
piston rings
top end gasket set

tbh all i want to put different on it is some cams and inlet, also i have all the other sensors etc on the engine which is currently in the car so will just be a case of swapping the main block over!

they are to a degree, second hand blocks and heads.
they are bored, honed, new over sized pistons, bearings gaskets etc, reground crank, new valves skimmed head, new tappetts and loads more.
well worth the money imo

also depends if your pistons and conrods need replacing, as conrods sometimes stretch, and pistons get pitted too. Also you probably want the crank reground so its perfectly round on all the bearing faces.
I spent about £1200 having my engine rebuilt which included a lightened and balanced bottom end, 4 brand new pistons, all new bearing shells all round, new mains and big ends. All 16 valves reground, 16 new hydraulic lifters. Money well spent imo runs very smooth.
