how would you tell if the cat is fooked on a gsi without taking it off?
have noticed my gsi back-firing and popping recently and im not sure if the cat mite be fooked.
would take it off but im not a fan of re-fitting exhaust systems with just a jack holding the car up.

its had a new temp sensor as i had another engine fitted a month ago, so plugs and leads are new air filter is a courtenay panel filter which is clean.
could it have anything to do with it having a de-restrictive drilled airbox?

i very much doubt its to do with a derestricted airbox. normally a sensor or plug/lead etc.

i thought if a sensor was playing up the eml would come on and there would be a fault code. have done a diagnostic test and no codes where found.
where is the lamba sensor?

if there black on the spark plugs this is a sign of over fuelling. possibly blanking it off may help but i only had experience with a standard manifold.

Feel free to take this with a pinch of salt, I'm a biker really.
But popping etc on a bike is usually air getting into the exhaust system, normally a broken clamp or similar.

it is because of the lamba sensor on the exhaust manifold.
just checked on ngk website and it will back fire and pop as the gases are only passing the sensor on 1 outlet not all 4 so 3 outlets are missing the sensor completly.

have checked spark plugs and 1,3 and 4 are normal but 2 was black.
also have noticed black shit coming out the exhaust.
would fitting the lamba sensor in the correct place cure this?

i would think that the sensor is playing the part in the over fuelling yes.

i will get it moved then this week, as it costing me a fortune to run at the moment especially as i use V-power and not normal un leaded.
would this also be why im getting black shit coming out the exhaust?
