OK so since I've swapped everything over onto my 1.4 Sport everything has been wicked except the last couple of weeks.

When I start it up in the mornings or after having left it standing for a while,, it struggles to idle above 800rpm and cuts out, unless I rev it a little bit - and it then idles normally at around 800-850rpm.

Also... it sometimes randomly starts not being able to idle whilst changing gears and just cuts out. This is easily solved by giving it plenty of revs, but the next day it will randomly do it again.

I've got a suspision that most people will say its the Idle Control Valve, but I wanted to check with you lot that I am right, and find out what other suggestions you have?

Cheers guys!

they suffer from idle speed controlle valves aswell as egr valves, its a bit of a bugger to get to but take the ISC valve off and spray it with some carb cleaner this may fix the problem it may not, you will still most prolly need a ISC, after that just use some redX in the tank as its all caused by crappy carbon, use it every othe time you fill up and you shouldnt have a problem with it again.

I've only owned it about a month and have never serviced it (only the usual oil and water top ups). Thanks Richard, I'll give that a try... where abouts is it located? I am not particulary mechanically minded.

i take it you got the 1.4 witht eh metal inlet manifold?

if so you will need to take the top half off and its straped to the side of the throttle body i think you will need to take the cooland bottle off to get at it better.

I'll tackle this tomorrow. While I'm at it I may paint up my inlet manifold as it has an odd yellow tinge to it? Is this a simple job? Or one that may result in me buggering up my car?

Can't really afford an aftermarket inlet just yet. Certainly something to think about though.

If i was you, i'd check the ICV last.

Give it a service and put in some of that injector cleaner 1st.

At the end of the day, your going to end up doing that anyway.

Then if you still have the problem, take that TB off and change the ICV.

OK mate cheers for the advice. Is this the carb cleaner, what is it called and what shops sell it? What do I clean with it? I really don't know anything about engines except the very basics and things that I've already done.
