I got one like 5 months aftern the date, but it was in a hire car so i sopose they had to track me down

They can do you no matter how long it takes to go through the system.

My mate got a producer for having no insurance, he ignored it. 6months passed before he was done for it.

i would just throw it away and make itl ook like he never received it, unless it came recorded delivery i wouldnt bother taking notice!

well if you aren't reported at the roadside you are supposed to receive a notice of intended prosecution within 14 days iirc.
If you are reported they can take as long as they want. edit:within reason

6 months if cautioned at roadside - ie, if rights are read to you.

Camera, Van etc, 14 days to dispatch a NIP (not to your door, to dispatch)
