How the hell do i change the background colour to be the same as the picture i have as a wallapaper??? Tried everything so far, just cant seem to do it

i used to hate this. cant remember how i got rid of it! change the background colour i think in display settings?

I've tried doing all that and it still wont dissapear.
Any other ideas?

Oh and im sure vista will solve it but not for a couple of weeks

Control Pannel -> System -> Advanced -> Performance Settings

Then tick 'Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop' , and click Ok.

Just tried that too with no luck. Currently downloading sofware called 'windows blind' which, i hope does the trick

i used to use a program called Transtext, give it a go from here although XP's not listed. http://www.realityrift.com/applications/transtext/

Go on your display properties and set it to 32bit colour. Should fix it. Remember this happening to my PC when XP first came out. Did loads to fix it, and in the end it worked. Judging by your icons, you may have some internet content on your background too. If so, disable it.
