I tried searching but it came back with threads about York

Anyone been to NY? Thinking of going in the new year for a week.

Cheapest i've seen is £600 for flights and 3* accomodation, is this a good price?

Thanks.

3* accomodation in new york is horrible tbh, wont get any better unless payin over the odds for a break though...

if you plan on only using the room for sleep then you'll probably get away with it, if not i would make sure the hotel is ok first.

example:-

went last year,(before any1 laughs at goin on holiday with family it was for my uncles wedding lol)
3* acommodation
grandparents room was sh*t, opened window onto a brickwall and theyr room was constantly 40 degrees or something, and it was the middle of summer so humid to start with.
They tried to give me my sister and my mum a room with 2 single beds that hadnt been cleaned, had no windows, was filthy and the advertised "kitchen" turned out to be a microwave and a cupboard. We complained on the basis that i wasn't clean and they moved us to a 4* room and tbh couldnt have asked for more, was around the same as you would expect from a 3* room in spain except alot more space.

I was there Xmas and New Year 2005 and i'm heading back there on 10th November.

Flights were £260 return and direct with American Airlines and its costing me, my sis and her b/f £150 each for 7 night accomodation in a cool hostel between Central Station and Madison Sq. Garden.

MY sister is going in May, something like 4 nights in a 3 star hotel on the outskirts for £1600 for 2 of them.

I'd say your prices are half decent.

Been a few times, got family in NY and a cousin who lives in Wall Street - it's one of my fav places in the world. A good hotel is the Herald Square, cheap (for NY), clean and only 2 blocks from Empire/Macy's etc so it's very central. Location is all important, you don't want to be messing about on the sub way all the time or use cabs!

Trust me, use Herald Square!

I went with my other half back in December 2003 and have been wanting to go back ever since as I loved it.
Flights and 3 nights accomodation cost us £800 for both of us together.
The hotel was called the Pennsylvania its opposite Maddason Square Garden and is 2 mins walk from Times Square would recomend it to anyone as even though it was classed as a 3* I'd say it was more like a 4* with lovely king size beds.
If you do go def take the helicotor flight around the Statue of liberty and up the Hudson. Think it only cost £40 per person and really worth it.

I know that, by the Penn station - another good location. Do your homework before you book anywhere, I'd be a fucker if your out of the mid town area.

My mum has just come back yesterday she went for 4nights, stayed in a 4* i think and she paid £500 for the accomodation and flights, and took £500 to spend and she brought some money back quite reasonable i think. Only other thing is she said she'd go for a week next time as it was to much cramped in.
