Drew a rough diagram to show you how it is timed at them moment, does anyone know if this is correct?

no thats wrong. the cam marks should be pointing up. and dont take notice off that bottom needle mark as inaccurate sometimes, take the bottom pulley off and line that notch with the oil pump

will it have damaged the valves or anything like that? When I take the bottom pulley of do I line the notch behind it up with the needle?

no the bottom notch will be right at the bottom off the pulley and will line up with oil pump. was it running like that or has the belt slipped?

it was running like that but really lifeless! just took the cam cover off and it started raining again so it will need to wait again lol

As said above, cam pulleys pointing up, in line with the marks.

Turn it over by hand first to make sure it's set up right and doesn't damage the valves.

Whats the best way to get the timing belt tight? alot of slack exhaust cam side

by using a proper tensioner tool if its the early style pulleys etc
